This rounded evergreen bush has wonderful smoky light purple flowers in a nice, full truss. Flower color varies widely, but all the flower buds have distinctive scales outlined in brown.
The silvery-gray-white indumentum on the undersides of the leaves adds interest.
R. niveum should grow to about 6 feet in 10 years in your partly shady garden.
This rhododendron will like: 50% shade, small amounts of fertilizer on Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day and gentle watering.
The purples are difficult to photograph and the pictures often don’t capture the true color!
