R. fortunei is native to many parts of China and was grown here from seed in Western Washington. It’s vigorous, upright, and a good do-er in our growing conditions. The stem of the leaf (petiole) is purplish or reddish and flowers are pink and fragrant.
This is a stately plant that out- performs many of the hybrids of which it is a parent. Over time it can become a large mound or small tree, perhaps six feet in ten years. Enjoy!
This rhododendron will like: Partial Shade – small amounts of fertilizer on Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day – gentle Watering – well-aerated soil.
