This tropical rhodie is native to China and North Vietnam. Its distinctive large leaves have a goldish/grey appearance and frame white tubular fragrant flowers in May, June, and possibly July. The flowers can reach a length of 4 inches! The new foliage comes out in shades of pinkish violet!
It will want protection from winter frost, so you might grow it in a large pot and bring into the garage on the coldest winter days.
This rhododendron will like partial shade with small amounts of fertilizer on Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. Protection from extreme cold is a must.
